Since human body needs activity for its juices to flow and it to work at its optimal efficiency level, when someone sleeps for more than 8 hours at night, it can lead to a state of inertia and inaction that can lead to a lowered energy and thus depression. Of course, this works both ways. Some people who have clinical depression tend to sleep more than usual.
