DIY-Frizzy hair remedies

Do you hate your frizzy hair? Don’t worry! Let me help you with the best possible solutions because I’m facing the same issue as yours. Before we look at the options available, do you know what frizziness means? Clumsy, uncontrollable, damaged, dry, wavy, and whatnot! In simple words, they don’t align together. The cuticles that surround the hair are dry and dead. But, based on my experiments and experience, I’ve come up with potential solutions that might work for you. Let’s explore more.

Why Does Hair Become Frizzy?

Frizziness occurs when hair cuticles are dry and rise halfway from the scalp. Humidity worsens the condition as moisture passes through the raised dead cells, making hair strands thick. Consequently, hair becomes dry and frizzy. Curly hair is more prone to frizziness than straight hair.

What Causes Frizzy Hair?

Here are some of the primary causes of frizzy hair, they include

  • Over-washing the hair
  • Styling hair gels
  • Using alcohol and harsh soaps
  • Using a shampoo that contains alkaline
  • Blowing your hair excessively
  • Continuous use of a curling iron and heat comb to style your hair
  • Rubbing your hair harshly with a towel to dry it
  • Perming, coloring, and smoothening your hair with heat

Signs of Frizzy Hair

The most common symptoms may include

  • The hair strands do not align with each other properly.
  • You may find it difficult to finger-comb your hair.
  • Split ends, tangled hair, and sometimes hair with less density.

Home Remedies for Frizzy Hair

Follow some simple home remedies to achieve smooth and silky hair naturally. These remedies help restore moisture to reduce frizziness.

Oil Treatment

If you feel your hair looks frizzy, you can go for a hot oil treatment, which will help you restore moisture naturally. You can use oils like safflower, olive, etc. Warm the oil to a comfortable temperature, but not too hot. Massage the oil into your scalp, wear a shower cap, or wrap your hair with a warm towel and leave for more than an hour for deep penetration. Rinse off with mild shampoo.

Mayonnaise

Yes, you heard it right! You can use mayonnaise rich in oil and egg that stimulates natural sebum. This in turn coats the hair shafts making them soft and shining. Wet your hair, and apply a cup of mayonnaise starting at the roots. Massage and cover it with a cap and leave it for 30 minutes. rinse off with a mild shampoo for best results.

Coconut oil

You can easily control frizziness by using coconut oil. It works great on heavy and thick hair too. Botanical oils like jojoba, almond, and olive oil are the best substitutes if you don’t like coconut oil. Apply the required quantity of oil to your hair and cover it with a towel or cap for deep conditioning. Later, wash it with chemical-free shampoo to retain moisture.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Use apple cider vinegar to remove excessive oil caused by styling products and shampoos. Mix apple cider vinegar at home with water to maintain the natural pH levels. Using it regularly results in smoother, easier-to-detangle, shinier, and stronger hair.

Avocado

Avocado is not just a toast topping, it is rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential antioxidants. This fruit is packed with nourishing ingredients, and some of them may help to strengthen your hair as well. It also helps restore the original shine of your hair. Mash avocado with egg and apply the paste to your scalp, leaving it for 30 minutes. Wash your hair afterwards and enjoy instant shine and nourishment.

Egg and Aloe vera

The amino acids in aloe vera help promote hair strength and add shine. Additionally, it helps tame frizzy hair leaving your hair silky and glossy. Aloe vera smoothens the hair by locking moisture and works well as a detangle. Take one egg and separate the white, add two spoons of fresh aloe vera gel, and mix it. Apply the mask on the scalp and spread it from the roots to the tip. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash your hair with mild chemical-free shampoo.

Banana & Coconut Milk

Coconut milk contains lauric acid, which helps restore the actual elasticity and keep your hair healthy and hydrated. Coconut milk has natural anti-frizz properties to nourish your strands from the inside out and keep them strong and lustrous. Banana also has deep conditioning nutrients and repair your hair cells.

Take a cup of mashed banana, add ¼ cup of coconut milk, and mix it well. Then apply the banana paste on your scalp and wait for 30-40 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water for smooth and nourishing hair.
