7 Ways you are damaging your towels

Towels are an indispensable part of our daily lives. We cannot imagine taking a shower without one. Yet are we taking as much care as we should in their day to day maintenance?

Here are some mistakes that we are making in maintaining them:

1. Hanging them up doubled up

When we hang towels, we should make sure that they are hung in a single hook or on a towel bar and also in a way that air dries them up. If they are not spread and hung up, moisture will get trapped in the layers and encourage the growth of mold and bacteria.

2. Not washing them frequently

Towels should be washed after every couple of uses. They are the breeding grounds of bacteria and germs. You use them every day so they are bound to get dirty.

3. Using too much detergent

We think that by using more detergent we will get off the dirt more easily. But the fact is that using excessive detergent will only result in the suds getting trapped in the towels that don’t get washed off and give room for the growth of bacteria and mold. Use only the recommended amount of detergent when washing.

4. You never washed them in hot water

You should consider washing your towels in hot water once in a while to ensure that it’s completely germ free.

5. Over using fabric softener’s

Fabric softener’s no doubt makes fabric soft. But if used too frequently it can ruin the absorbency of towels. So avoid using it too much and try to skip a few washes with fabric softeners.

6. Not shaking them out

After taking towels out of the drier, do not forget to shake them out. This will keep them in their fluffy state. You might consider tossing them out before they go in the drier too.

7. You use the same towels too often

Try to rotate between using towels. If you use the same towels again and again they will get worn out sooner. Less use and less washing mean that they will last longer.

So protect your towels and prevent them from getting worn out sooner than they should.
